ICC fines Suryakumar Yadav, Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf for breaching code of conduct

Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has found Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav guilty of breaching its code of conduct for dedicating India’s victory against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 group match to the armed forces and expressing solidarity with the victims of the April 22 Pahalgam attack.

According to reports, ICC match referee Richie Richardson rejected Yadav’s plea of “not guilty”. The Indian skipper was penalised 30 per cent of his match fee.

“Perfect occasion, taking the time out, we stand by the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. We express our solidarity…Want to dedicate the win to all our armed forces who showed a lot of bravery,” SKY, as he is popularly known, said at the post-match presentation.

The Indian team management has reportedly appealed against the verdict.

Pakistan players Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan have also been found guilty of breaching the ICC code of conduct during the Super 4 clash between India and Pakistan on September 21.

The two players made controversial gestures during the match. In the first innings, after reaching his fifty, Farhan gripped his bat like a gun and mimicked firing shots in celebration. He was reportedly found guilty of a Level 1 offence.

Later in the game, Rauf, while fielding near the boundary line, made a gesture that appeared to mimic an aircraft going down.

Both players have been strongly reprimanded by the ICC, and Rauf has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee.

Both boards — PCB and BCCI — had lodged complaints against each other’s players.
